Meet The Staff
Cal worked for Krohn's many years under the previous owner, Carl as a service technician. Back in 2011 he returned on a part-time basis and now he's the man who fixes up our refurbished appliances. His attention to detail is like none other, which makes it easy for us to put a warranty on any appliance he has fixed up! When he is not tinkering around with appliances, he enjoys camping and spending time with his wife and family.
Caleb is the newest member of the Krohn's team, joining us in late 2021. For now, he is just riding along, learning the in's and out's of the deliveries, installations, and duct/vent cleanings. The next step will be training for appliance repair to become a third full-time technician. We are quite excited to have him come aboard as our business continues to grow!
Frank joined our team after he retired from the National Guard, he helps with deliveries, duct and vent cleanings. He's a longtime neighbor of Brian's. When Frank isn't working, he is enjoying spending time with his wife and their 7 dogs, he also enjoys traveling the US in his motorhome.
Justin joined our team in 2019, he started learning the ways of becoming a technician, and is now one of the main guys sent out on jobs. He had a background in appliance installation, so that knowledge gave him a great jumpstart to becoming a technician. When Justin isn't at work he enjoys gaming, working on cars & spending time with his fiance & his ferrets.
Brian's daughter Laura has been working for Krohn's in some capacity or another since Love bought the business in 2001, where her first job was entering all the customers into the computer system, then working after school & on Saturdays answering phones once she got into High School. In 2009, she joined full time as a secretary/office admin which she did until the birth of her third child in 2018, where she stepped back to just working from home doing advertising & filling in as needed. She returned to the team part-time in 2021 & now shares office duties with Rachel. She is also the one who organizes and orchestrates Krohn's Annual Diaper Drive! When Laura isn't working she's hauling her kids to youth rodeos, barrel racing, roping with her husband, hunting, or just working outside on her ranch.
Micah joined our team in 2021 as a technician in training, he really caught on quickly and is quite an asset to our team. He currently works on washers, dryers, ranges & dishwashers but is learning the ropes to also work on refrigeration. When Michah isn't working, he enjoys cooking, gaming and spending time with his girlfriend.
Rachel joined our team in 2019, she is also one of the friendly faces to greet you when you walk in the door. She shares office duties with Laura answering phones and doing all the behind-the-scenes work to keep the Krohn's team running smoothly. When Rachel isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, watching her nephew, floating the river, shopping, tending to her saltwater aquarium, and has quite the crafty side! She's also involved with the Newberg Rotary and the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival.
Will joined our team in 2020, he helps our technicians with deliveries, dryer vent, and furnace cleanings. He also helps keep the workshop in the back clean & organized, and has earned himself the nickname "Mr Clean". When he isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his family, helping out with the St Paul Rodeo, cheering on the Beavers, gaming & making silly TikTok videos.
History of Krohn's Appliance
Krohn’s Appliance was started in Newberg in 1947 by the Krohn Family and was originally a part of the paper mill. Eventually, the Krohn family separated the business from the mill, and they ran the business from downtown Newberg inside an old Quonset hut. In the 70’s, their friend Carl Freeman started working for them. When the Krohn family was ready to retire and sell the business, Carl bought it from them, changing the name to Krohn’s Appliance Center. In 1989 Brian started working for Carl, who had recently become his stepfather by marrying his mother, Barbara. Brian started out just doing deliveries but quickly took an interest to appliance repair and worked his way up to becoming a technician. In the late 90’s, Krohn’s moved to the old JC Penny’s building (which is now Critter Cabana) and expanded to sell not only more appliances but TV’s and mattresses until Carl’s retirement in 2001.
Brian purchased the business from Carl in August of 2001, just taking over the service aspect of it, using his garage as his home office. Unfortunately, we all know what happened on September 11, 2001 that shook our nation to it’s core…and also affected businesses large and small throughout the country. Krohn’s was able to stay afloat through those trying times, and Brian expanded to start selling refurbished appliances and quickly outgrew his garage. He was able to secure a small warehouse to rent on Hulet Lane (which is now our back entrant) in 2004 and slowly continue to grow his business through service and refurbished appliances until an office connected to the front side of the building with highway frontage opened up in 2007, where Krohn’s is still at today! Krohn’s struggled through the recession as most businesses did, but made it through and in 2012 again expanded to start offering new appliances again. The business has been booming since and has even allowed for a full office remodel in 2015 leaving our front showroom looking absolutely beautiful, and we have our amazing customers to thank for that! Krohn’s is very proud to be part of such a great close knit community like Newberg, and urges everyone to SHOP LOCAL from all the incredible small businesses within the area!
