History of Krohn's Appliance
Krohn's Appliance was started in Newberg in 1947 by the Krohn Family and was originally a part of the paper mill. Eventually, the Krohn family separated the business from the mill, and they ran the business from downtown Newberg inside an old Quonset hut. In the 70's, their friend Carl Freeman started working for them. When the Krohn family was ready to retire and sell the business, Carl bought it from them, changing the name to Krohn's Appliance Center. In 1989 Brian started working for Carl, who had recently become his stepfather by marrying his mother, Barbara. Brian started out just doing deliveries but quickly took an interest to appliance repair and worked his way up to becoming a technician. In the late 90's, Krohn's moved to the old JC Penny's building (which is now Critter Cabana) and expanded to sell not only more appliances but TV's and mattresses until Carl's retirement in 2001.
Brian purchased the business from Carl in August of 2001, just taking over the service aspect of it,using his garage as his home office. Unfortunately, we all know what happened on September 11,2001 that shook our nation to it's core…and also affected businesses large and small throughout the country. Krohn's was able to stay afloat through those trying times, and Brian expanded to start selling refurbished appliances and quickly outgrew his garage. He was able to secure a small warehouse to rent on Hulet Lane (which is now our back entrant) in 2004 and slowly continue to grow his business through service and refurbished appliances until an office connected to the front side of the building with highway frontage opened up in 2007, where Krohn's is still at today! Krohn's struggled through the recession as most businesses did, but made it through and in 2012 again expanded to start offering new appliances again. The business has been booming since and has even allowed for a full office remodel in 2015 leaving our front showroom looking absolutely beautiful, and we have our amazing customers to thank for that! Krohn's is very proud to be part of such a great close knit community like Newberg, and urges everyone to SHOP LOCAL from all the incredible small businesses within the area!
